Summer Cooking Club

During the past 4 weeks, we have been hosting cooking lessons for kids here in Congl Meinciau, using ur Egin Cegin facilities! We partnered with Menter Mon and their Gwynedd food partnership to be able to offer the sessions to kids year 7 and up, with the hope of teaching them core cooking skills, and giving them the opportunity to make nutritious and tasty meals to take home with them at the end of the day. They also of course has the opportunity to socialise with friends during the school holidays.

It was chef and author Rhian Cadwaladr who came to host the sessions, and it has been great seeing the kids being taught by her. We are extremely grateful to Rhian for her time and effort while teaching the kids!

The children made a variety of meals during the sessions, including a main meal and dessert for each session. During the first week, the group got busy making pasta salad and healthy flapjacks. Week 2 they had the opportunity to make pizzas and oat muffins. Quiches and galettes where made on the third week and Spaghetti bolognese and banana bread on the fourth week.

The purpose and intention of the sessions was to give local young people a taste of the food industry and to learn lifelong skills that they can use in the future.
